Fire medics cross-train in the areas of emergency medical services and fire protection/suppression. They respond to all types of emergencies, such as house fires, traffic accidents and rescue situations. Develop skills in emergency medical response at the paramedic technician level; learn about fire behavior, firefighter safety and survival; and develop critical thinking skills for effective emergency response.
A State of Wisconsin EMT-Basic, or higher, license is required for participation in this program. Students must also have obtained their Wisconsin State Firefighter I Certification to enroll in the Fire Medic program.
The minimum required course grades and program grade point average (GPA) for students under this catalog are:

Career Pathway
This WCTC program prepares students to obtain the required licensure to be employed/practice in the state of Wisconsin. The College does not guarantee its curriculum matches the requirements for preparation, examinations, or licensure for other states.
Program Outcomes
- Prepare for incident response and emergency operations.
- Integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings for a variety of patient encounters.
- Demonstrate paramedic skills associated with established standards and procedures for a variety of patient encounters.
- Meet state and national competencies for paramedic certification(s).
